The RS 255 Kompressor was BMW's breakthrough in international motorsport

The 1939 BMW RS 255 Kompressor (also known as the 500 Kompressor) was a revolutionary racing motorcycle with a 500cc twin-cylinder boxer engine and supercharger, producing between 55 and 60 hp. Weighing only about 136 kg, the RS 255 reached top speeds of over 225 km/h (140 mph). Georg "Schorsch" Meier became the first non-native to win the Senior TT on the Isle of Man in 1939.
